Do stick on labels effect the playback?
Cannot playback last chapter on DVD (Jim)
: Do stick on labels effect the playback? There seems to be general agreement that stick on labels for DVDs are a very bad idea.
Because DVDs spin faster and have much closer tolerances than CDs, and because it is almost impossible to install the labels so that they are perfectly centered, they tend to cause imbalance and vibration in the media as it spins.
This vibration is the least at the center where the DVD is clamped to the spindle, and greatest at the outer edge where it is unsupported.
Since DVDs. like CDs are written from the inside to the outside, any problems that show up are much more likely near the end of the program.

Thanks for the advice.
The label was my problem., causing an unbalanced disc that could not stay in the focal range of the laser.
That´s a bummer, because if I want nice looking artwork I am going to have to buy a disc printer.
Any comments on cost-effective disc printing solutions?

: I have heard this before, and I have yet to have a problem. I have been doing this for about 10 months. I have heard no official word from any company. Can someone tell me ?

Pioneer strongly recommends against using a printed stick on paper label on DVD-R media. This will cause compatibility problems on a number of consumer players.
If you want to put a nice looking label on a DVD-R then buy blank media with a white printable coating and use a stanard CD-R label printer to print a color image onto the top surface of the disc.
