Thanks to some VNC style remote control software - Timbuktu - an enterprising AppleScript hacker was able to track down his sister´s stolen iMac.
R.D. Bridges was able to upload a custom written AppleScript to the iMac using the remote control software and place it in the Startup Items folder. This caused the code to run when the machine was booted up. Using this technique, he was able to remove his sister´s personal data from the stolen machine. Then, more cunningly, he altered the ISP telephone number so the machine would phone his own home and his sister´s home. They were then able to use Caller-ID to track down the person who stole the computer!
