How to download and install
Below are easy-to-follow instructions for downloading and installing your Mac printing solution.

Before proceeding with the software installation, the printer must first be properly set up, and your computer must be ready to print.
Turn on the printer first, then the computer.
Close any screen savers, virus protection programs or other software programs that are running on your computer.
Download the file to your hard drive.
Expand the file by finding the directory where the file was saved. Double click on the file.
To install the files, double click on the Installation program. Printer support files will be installed into their appropriate locations. HP LaserJet Utility will be installed in the HP LaserJet Folder. If installing under OS X, files will be installed for both OS X and Classic (if installed).

For Mac OS 8.6 through 9.2, identify the printer by running the DeskTop Printer Utility. Double click on the utility. Identify your connection type. Next, identify your printer on the connection and select the printer's PPD name (If you can autosetup the device, please do so).
Close the Desktop Printer Utility. Name you printer in the process.

For Mac OS X 10.0 and beyond, identify the printer by running the Print Center Utility.
Double click on the utility. Select Add Printer. Select the appropriate Directory Service. Select you printer from the list displayed or enter the IP address and printer type. Click on "Add" to add printer.

The "Easy Install" option available in this software installer installs all software components for typical printer operation. In the event that you have the printer connected to the USB port on your Macintosh computer and you wish to optionally configure printer features using the HP LaserJet Utility, you will need to install an additional software components. Follow the steps below to custom install the additional software components.
If you are using Mac OS X or greater:
1. Restart your computer in Mac OS 9.2.
2. If you are already working in Mac OS X, do the following:
a. Open the "System Utilities" application.
b. Click on startup disk icon.
c. Select the classic system folder.
d. Restart the computer.
2. Run the HP LaserJet Installer.
3. Select "Custom Install."
4. Select the USB Components box.
5. Click the Install button.
6. Restart the computer in Mac OS X.

If you are using Mac OS 8.6 to 9.2:
1. Run the HP LaserJet Installer.
2. Select "Custom Install."
3. Select the USB Components box.
4. Click the Install button.
