Hej,

Jag tar det på engelska- det är lättare för mig (min mödersmål)- hoppas att det är okej. Skriv gärna tillbacka på svenska!

I brought two US iPhone 3G's to Sweden- one for me to unlock and use with the operator Tre, and one for my friend to use with Tele 2/Comviq. We are both using i-smartphone SIMS ordered from Hong Kong on Ebay and mostly everything is working fine.

However, the GPS "locate me" function does not work with Tre, only with Tele 2. I've even swapped SIMS with my friend to be sure it wasn't a problem with my phone - and when my phone has the Tele2 card installed, "locate me" works fine.

Another twist to this problem is whenever my friend (using Tele2) switches 3G on, and the phone shows "SWEDEN 3G" on the top corner, his GPS "locate me" stops functioning. This leads me to believe that this feature only functions on non "3G" networks. How could this be the case? In the US, the GPS worked on ATT's 3G network. Konstigt...

Any ideas or suggestions are greatlly appreciated! Great forum by the way.

P.S.
Smaller problems exist, but are not quite as worrisome. For example, when I send an SMS to someone, when they respond it sometimes comes through as a separate message- not in the "conversation" format SMS communication is supposed to take on the phone. The phone number seems to be identical to the incoming number (ex. 073507xxxx).

Well I can only tell you this. I have an italian iphone, unlocked original and the operator Tre. Locate me works fine for me, so this is not a "Tre-problem".

How weird. Then perhaps it has to do with my phone being "locked" and using the unlock SIM to trick it into working. Or?

Copster, which firmware are you using? Did you ever try Locate Me with 2.0?

Update to 2.1 and make sure you are outside when you activate the GPS module so that it can get a connection to the GPS satellites. It might take a few minutes the first time but after that it should go much faster. Also make sure you can connect to the G3 data network if 3 now uses special internet settings.

Thanks Rob- but the problem is I don't want to update the baseband so I'm still running 2.0, waiting/hoping for the dev team to release a software unlock.

Do you know if it is possible to jailbreak the phone, update to 2.1 and keep the original baseband?

Hmmm, not sure what the G3 data network settings are. Are these APN settings?

Thx again for the suggestions!

I guess you are right. You could try using Pwnage Tool 2.1 which should support the 3G iPhone. I think the network settings are at a similar place where the APN settings are but I am not sure as I don't own a 3G iPhone.

Hey!

I bought a Swedish Telia-locked iPhone 3G and a i-smartphone SIM to use with the operator Tre. The only problem was that I only could receive calls and sms while I was surfing, listening to webradio or downloading something.

I talked to a guy who had experienced alot of strange things with the i-smartphone. So i bought a Gevey 3G Sim card adapter and now everything works perfectly.

Hmmm, I will have to look into the Gevey SIM. My phone, seems to work perfectly except for the GPS problem and sometimes SMS's I receive do not attach themselves to prior conversations that have been going on with the same "contact person" (weird).

I am hesitant to update to 2.1 yet, because I do not want to update the baseband and reduce my chances of unlocking the phone when/if it becomes possible. WIN PWNage tool should be coming out soon- so maybe I will try using that to update the firmware to 2.1 and keep the old baseband to see if the GPS starts working. If not, I may try the Gevey SIM!

Thanks.

Just FYI i use Rebelsim with 2.1 and tre without any problems (Telia locked).
SMS works, locator works etc...
I've used it för 1 week now.

Except for the crap coverage all is working fine..
