This is a little late but tis is what I did and it may help others.
Cleaning Synology NAS drives for selling on.
Overview: Rinstall without volume (discrete disks) - Secure Erase 3 Drives Together - Reistall again - Swap and erase last drive.
1. Select Control Panel - Update and Restore - Reset
2. Reset the System - Confirm loss of data Etc = Keep Same admin if you want to select this.
3. System will reboot- You find the system again and Go through reinstall Once reset.
4. On Reinstall opt not to create a volume out of the drives. - Opt not to install packages.
5. System will come back reinstalled.
6. Go to storage manager - HDD/SDD - select drives 2 3 and 4 in sequence and in the dropdown select "secure erase".
This can happen in background and will take a while.
7. Once securely erased, shut down system.
8. Put Drive 4 (or any of the drives) in bay 1 and resinstall - you may want to leave the old Drive1 out to ensure it doesnt try to use it.
9. Find the system and perform install stage 3. to 5. above, again.
10. Once installed, shutdown (or not) and insert the removed drive in Bay 4,
11. Go to Storage Manager, SDD/HDD again and select only bay 4, in the drop down select "Secure Erase"
12. You should now have an installed system ready to be sold. (Subject to secure erase from Synology being secure enough for you.
