We've been recording drums lately using three mics; two overhanging and one at the snare. We connect it all through a mixing table and then into my laptop and simply record from sound input.
We have so far recorded three times. All three times we used the exact same mics at the exact same position and basicly the exact same settings on the mixer.
The strange thing is, the quality the first time was pretty bad, the second time awsome and the third time back to almost as bad as the first one.
None of us has any clue what we could have done different during the recordings..
this is a mystery to us, we want the good quality back!
please check these two samples out. Can you figure out what we're doing different? The difference is really clear when using headphones...
