This is very annoying. I have a Lombard with 384 megs of ram and OS 9.2. Suddenly (after a few years of flawless operation) my machine locks up. It seems to happen when i open and then try to close a file. It happened today when i attempted to close "SkrivText". Last night it happend with Quicktime Player. When i hit the "alt-apple key-esc" combination i get a blank dialog box. The only way to quit the machine is with the reset switch on the back. What could be the cause of this and how do i correct it?

Thanks a million.

Trash the Finder preferences in System Folder : Preferences and restart the computer. (The Finder prefs occasionally get mangled after a crash. A new Finder prefs file will be created next time you restart the machine.) You could also try trashing the preferences for the offending programs, but do the Finder trick first.

Thanks...

I'll try that. I've wanted to do the same with the prefs file for Explorer but i can't find it. Is there such a file somewhere?

Thanks again,
