quote:How Apple could kill Microsoft
Microsoft currently holds about 95 percent of the desktop OS market. They have reached this position by copying Apple and ripping off IBM. They are thieves. They must pay for this.
Microsoft is not nearly as successful in the server market, and this is where Apple could hit them where it hurts. Apple could license Mac OS X Server to Sun, IBM and HP-Compaq which would wreak havoc to Microsoft´s rather pathetic server OS business.
I believe Apple should release an x86 version of Mac OS X Server. Contrary to conventional thinking, this would not hurt Apple´s hardware sales one bit. The people who buy Macs today would continue to buy Apple´s Macs and not IBM clones running Mac OS X.
An x86 version of Mac OS X Server would however expand the market and ensure a steady stream of licensing money for Apple, which could be used to further develop Mac OS X (Client and Server) and really kill Windows.
A strong and friendly alliance between the competitors Apple, IBM, HP-Compaq and Sun Microsystems would ensure constant headaches and heartburn for Microsoft and Windows, and improved mental health for computer users the world over.
I would like to see Mac OS X run on IBM´s, HP-Compaq´s and Sun´s big iron too!
