Efter att ha lagt upp ett klagomål på detta fel så fick jag detta svar från elgato:
Thank you for contacting Elgato Systems.
I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble with your EyeTV Hybrid.
With recent USB changes in Mac OS X 10.4.11, and 10.5.x, there seems to be a higher probability of this issue happening.
It is actually related to the USB controller, which identifies the Hybrid as a USB 1.1 device, then sets the bus speed accordingly. Once the USB controller has set the bus, that particular port IS a USB 1.1 port, and can only operate at 12 Mbps. When EyeTV sees that the connection speed to the Hybrid is only 12 Mbps, it raises the error, because it cannot operate without a USB 2 connection. But, at that point, there is nothing EyeTV can do to make the USB controller reassign the device, because this all happens as soon as the device is inserted/recognized.
Usually, plugging and unplugging the EyeTV Hybrid several times (waiting 3-4 seconds between insert/removal) will allow the controller to properly set the device speed. You can test this by plugging in the Hybrid, then observing the connected USB devices via System Profiler (press apple+R to refresh the connected devices), and see if the max speed is 12 Mbps, or 480 Mbps. If its reporting a 12 Mbps connection, then unplug, and replug the device and refresh again.
