When you first start InDesign, the Control palette and the toolbox are displayed, along with several groups of palettes, some of which are collapsed at the side of the application window (Windows) or screen (Mac OS).
The Control palette and the Info palette are context-sensitive: they display different options depending on the type of object you select. In addition, the Control palette includes a button that lets you quickly show and hide palettes related to the selected page item.
