Hello - anybody here that got anything negative to say about Western Digital WD120JB disk, planing to buy it. As I know it the IBM GXP120 is great for games and servers but the WD disk is the best overal disk, should be very close to a 10.000rpm scsii. I read at Storage Review that it should be 36% faster than Maxtor 7.200rpm disk.
FÖRSTA SVARET:
I am willing to stand up. WD might be faster but just go to any small PC shop. The desk is piled high with defunked WD drives. Caveat emptor. get a seagate.
ANDRA SVARET:
I would have to strongly disagree. The failed WD drives is a thing of long, long ago and the continued rumor of their drives failing in great quantities has become nothing more than an Urban Legend.
I for one would not put anything of value on an IBM drive, especially with the new 333 hour/month on-time specification on the new series of drives. And as someone who´s installed over 250 of the previous IBM drives @ clients and dealt with just about a 10% failure rate I have little confidence.
I´ve used the WD Jumbo Drives since they came out with great success. I´ve installed them as replacement and slave drives in G4´s, internal RAIDS, and external FireWire boxes and RAID configs. All with great success (no failures yet KOW) and awesome performance.
Now failure of Maxtor drives is not a thing of UL and I experienced almost 50% failure rate on their 80gb. drive a couple years ago right after they first shipped. A nice consumer drive but IMHO not meant for professional use where you´re constantly hitting on the drive like in DV use.
Seagate has always made great products and have a solid reputation. You won´t go wrong with one of their drive but for the money and performance, try the Jumbo.
Självfallet så *gillar jag* det sista svaret men dubbelkollar gärna med flera, gärna spontana reaktioner om dagens diskar från Western Digital.
